Whistler’s Outdoor Cinema

Whistlerites and visitors alike gathered at sunset on the grassy beach of Lost Lake last Wednesday night for Whistler’s first outdoor cinema event of the summer. A short walk or cycle on the Valley Trails from the Pan Pacific Hotels, the event attracted spectators who followed the tea light-edged pathway through the forest.

While swimmers were still paddling in the lake, viewers were setting up their blankets, pillows, chairs, tarps, sleeping bags, nibbles and paraphernalia in order to see ‘Girl with a Dragon Tattoo’ in the fresh air under the stars. To ensure everyone gets a good view and a well-spent $7 entry fee, recliners lie down near the front, ground sitters are in the middle and those with chairs are towards the back.

The outdoor cinema is run by Lunafliks, a program organized by LUNA (Late and Unique Nighttime Alternatives), a community group which provides healthy night time options. Lunafliks is sponsored by the Resort Municipality of Whistler and Pique Newsmagazine. Showings are every second week during the summer, screening well-reviewed, alternative films and offering a $5 dinner option and $3 popcorn.

For a full schedule visit or our front desk staff and valet are always here to help with movie times and directions.
